Application for a temporary residence permit

 

A foreign national can an apply for an MVV at a Dutch Embassy or Consulate. In order to do so, he needs to bring the following documents to the Embassy or Consulate:

  • a valid passport;
  • a legalized birth certificate;
  • passport photographs;
  • a work permit/proof the employer in the Netherlands has applied for a work permit from the local Center for Work and Income.

Official documents (such as birth certificates and marriage certificates) from foreign countries have to be legalized. Legalization means that the authorities in the country where the documents come from sign a statement saying that the documents were issued by an official body. This statement is usually provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Ministry of Justice. The Dutch Embassy or Consulate will also certify the legalized document; the fee is EUR 9.08 per document.

 

 

 

 

The Embassy or Consulate will pass the application of the MVV on to the Immigration and Naturalization Service in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, contact will be made with the employer. The credentials of the employer will be verified. The Immigration and Naturalization Service will assess the application based on all the information, and then make a decision.
